Kuimba 13, at last

Reggae band Black Missionaries is set to release the latest placement in the Kuimba album series on Friday at  Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

Four years have gone since the Chileka-based band released their last studio album. Three months ago, the group gave their fans a taste of what is in stole in their forthcoming album when they released four promotional singles; Wali wali, Time to come, Amapilira and Story.

As per tradition, the two Fumulani siblings Anjiru and Chizondi took charge of the vocals in the four singles and it will be no surprise if this will also apply to the other six songs, which will complete the ten-track album.

Speaking in an interview yesterday ahead of the launch, the group’s front man Anjiru said the response the four singles received has been encouraging.

“This will be one of the best Kuimba albums ever. It has a good balance in terms of the messages, arrangement and instrumentation. We have retained that touch which Black Missionaries is known for,” he said.

Anjiru said the Kuimba journey has not been easy but they are focusing on the positives that have culminated into 13 successful albums.

He said: “We would rather focus on the positives and the areas that people want us to improve on. We have constantly shown how we want to gain. That to us is a benchmark of our strengths and goals.”

Kuimba 13 has been produced by OBK at his OBK Beatz Studio in Blantyre and one of the songs features Afro-dance prodigy Eli Njuchi.

The launch  will be spiced by performances from Namadingo, Makasu Band, Anthony Makondetsa, Lulu, Lambani Dube and Lenzo Mshanga.

Anjiru said about the launch: “We want to give people a variety that is why we have brought it artists with different backgrounds. We hope people will enjoy the moment.”

Speaking in a separate interview, the group’s manager Ras Ray Harawa said music fans should expect some surprises during the event.

He said this time around their approach has been different as they have been a lot promotional engagement on television stations and social media. 

“We are grateful for the support that people continue to offer the group. When we look around we see many sectors suffering and the music industry has not been spared. If we compare to how things were few years ago, you will there is a big difference. We are glad to still be here,” said Ray Harawa.

After launching the album in Blantyre, the group will unveil a similar event at Aero Lounge in Lilongwe on Saturday.
